sage sauerbrey for hailey
Why should you vote Sage Sauerbrey for Hailey City Council?
Sage was born and raised in this town, and is passionate about the opportunity to continue giving back. Although he's the youngest candidate by a decade or more, Sage brings experience to the table. He's spent the last three years on Hailey's Planning and Zoning Commission, successfully advocating for community housing, more sustainable construction, and safer pathways. His background as a journalist gives him a deep knowledge of how city governments operate, and the last five years as a small business owner and a builder has taught him what the people of Hailey need for a thriving community.

About
I was born and grew up in Hailey, and have always held a strong bond and love for this town - the Big Wood River and Carbonate were my sacred spaces as a kid. The Middle Fork of the Salmon up north became an integral shaping factor as a young adult, when I spent my summers guiding its waters and my winters studying journalism in Nevada. After graduating I worked as a news editor and reporter at an independent newspaper in Truckee, CA, where I realized that most of the issues in that town stemmed from its extreme housing crisis.
When I moved back to the valley I decided to start on a course to help my hometown avoid the same fate; to use the case studies of mountain towns around the west to inform how we can maintain this vibrant community. I first started a company building tiny homes in an effort to create more attainable housing locally. A couple years later I became one of Hailey's Planning and Zoning Commissioners, a role I have taken with a deep sense of responsibility. I've advocated for community housing, more sustainable growth, and safer pathways. I have been fair and effective; I have listened, and I have always kept my eye on Hailey's future. This is the style of leadership and service that I will bring to your city council.

I married my wife, Sloan, this fall and we plan to start a family and live our lives here in Hailey. This is the main reason I'm running - to give our future generations as good (or hopefully even better!) a life as I had growing up here.

Community Housing
Sustainable Growth
Our Campaign Focus
Almost every community struggle can be traced back to a lack of housing for our locals. Hailey is where the backbone of the valley's workforce lives, and we need to be a leader in creating a diverse range of attainable housing options for locals at every stage of life - from affordable rentals, to starter homes, to forever homes.
The effort to maintain a strong and viable housing stock cannot compromise our priceless open spaces and other natural resources. We need to strengthen policies that support infill development and discourage sprawl. We need to be ever mindful about our water supply, and constantly finding new ways for the built environment to have a lighter footprint on the land.
Community Resilience
Safe Pathways
I want to live in a community where every citizen has the opportunity to live their best lives. This means endless support for our small businesses, non-profits, and schools. I will always back local entrepreneurship, collaborate with our vital community partners, and make every effort to ensure the schools in the valley have the resources to give our future leaders the best education possible.
One of the most important tenets of smart growth is the creating of safe, extensive, and connected pathways and public transportation. As we manage Hailey's growth we need to make sure its citizens can always safely and comfortably get around town. Let's take to the streets!
